Wooden boxes are a common method of safely keeping and storing delicate pottery, vases, and other ceramic, clay, and glass items in Japan. In addition to pottery, they are also widely used for a plethora of other traditional Japanese crafts, including kimono accessories, wrapping cloths, chopsticks, commemorative gifts, etc, and even food.
This small wooden box without a lid is very similar to masu measuring cups. It is a dark wood color, with old paper labels from a shop called Ikeda Shoten in Osaka. It is perfect for storing trinkets and decoration.
