Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku
This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features calligraphy with two big Japanese characters. The calligraphy is written in a fan shape. The two characters are Suki, who has been standing for a long time. The artist's name is Kumakichi Yamada, and it was written in Showa 58, which is 1983. The artist signed this piece.
Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. It was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan and has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room, and Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
