Japanese Buddhist Altar Fitting Hanging Lantern Butsugu Parts
This is a spare part from a vintage Japanese Buddhist brass metal hanging lantern, or rinto, made to be hung in Buddhist altars (butsugu). In particular, this part is the top piece of a rinto. The hook hangs onto a long decorative metal plate, which then attaches to the bottom piece that holds weights, candles, or sometimes an electric light. It has a loop at the top for hanging as well as heart-shaped cutouts on the edge.
