Vintage Japanese Katagami of a Woman Throwing Beans for Setsubun w/ Wood Frame

In a simple brown wood frame, this katagami textile stencil made from mulberry paper displays the image of a woman participating in mamemaki, a traditional activity during the Setsubun holiday (February 3rd) where one throws dried beans at demons to chase them and evil away.
While katagami is typically used for printing images on fabrics such as kimono, it has become a popular item to frame and or further decorate for wall art. As such, its intricate designs made by hand-cutting the paper make it an eye-catching piece to use in home and office decor.
The katagami design is adhered to a heavy cardstock paper.
