Japanese Stainless Steel Dashi Container
This is a vintage Japanese dashi container. It is made of stainless steel and has a small spout at the top edge to facilitate easy pouring. This is an item that would be used in a restaurant to store and serve dashi or other soup bases likely for meals such as nabe hot pot or shabu shabu. It has a simple lined design on the bottom half. It was made in Japan.
Dashi at its core is one of the most common soup bases in Japan made from boiling katsuobushi (bonito flakes) and kombu seaweed. Dashi is often added to other things to create complex flavors and a main ingredient to the famous miso soup.
