Vintage Japanese Chochin Lantern
This is a vintage Japanese paper hanging lantern called chochin. This particular lantern is displayed during the summer obon festival. It is made with thin, white washi paper with a thin bamboo frame and thick cardboard parts on the top and the bottom, the handle is wood. The lantern compresses flat for easy access to the candle. It is decorated with a floral pattern with kikyo bell flowers and chrysanthemum flowers and has light blue tassel. The thick cardboard parts and wood part are also decorated with a floral illustration. This lantern comes in the original paper box with a stand for the candle as well as instructions in Japanese.
