Japanese Hanging Scroll Pennant
This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) is actually a pennant for a senior citizen club. It is made of fabric. It is purple with white inscriptions with the name of the city and the club.
Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
