Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku
This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features two beautiful Japanese wild roses (hamanasu or maikai) with a lot of petals. The flowers are pink and white, and red. The thorns of the shrub are very detailed. At the top, there is a poem with big black characters. This piece is dated and it is signed with a name and a red seal. There is an inscription on the outside.
Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
