Vintage Japanese Embroidered Ball Decoration

This traditionally crafted Japanese fabric ball, Temari, has been constructed using woven subtle and muted blue, pink and beige silk embroidery thread/floss in a design that features two large chrysanthemums on either end, a blue band at the center, and a crisscross lattice of gold. This particular mari can hang and has one large hot pink tassel at the bottom. It is likely stuffed with dried rice hulls/husks and is contained by a soft beige cloth beneath the silk threads.
Meaning "hand ball" in Japanese, temari are a popular traditional toy often given to children during the New Years holiday and often is a symbol of friendship and loyalty. Through history, the ball became less of a toy and more of a beautiful decorative object made mostly of scraps of kimono fabrics or layered with silk thread in beautiful designs.
