Vtg Japanese Buddhist Altar Butsudan Doors
This is a 2-piece set of inner doors coming from a Japanese vintage wooden Buddhist altar cabinet. The two doors, a total of four tall panels, showcase a slatted front and back with a light mesh material with a karakusa twisting vine pattern on the inside for airflow. There are brass metal plate embellishments on the border as well as the hinges. At the center are open carved wooden pieces with the image of a crane, while at the very bottom is a decorative square piece decorated with plain gold leaf. There are two small metal hanging pull handles.
In Japan, the Buddhist altar is a place to enshrine the principal image that is the center of faith, and is a sacred place to hold memorial services for ancestors as a "small temple in the home".
