Antique Japanese Wooden Signboard

This is an antique Japanese wooden signboard, Munefuda or Munafuda, a traditional wooden plaque placed in the ridge of a building during construction, inscribed with details such as the date of completion, names of the builders, and other significant information. On the board, there are black kanji characters written vertically on the front and the back.  It is likely to be a dedication from some parishioners in the Gifu area. It has some small holes on the top, sides, and bottom.
It can be a beautiful piece for display, collection, or Japanese interior decor.

  • Some of the characters on the front:奉造栄大日國三社権現 respectfully constructed, flourish Dainichi Nyorai, three shrines, Buddha appearing in a temporary god figure, 濃刕方縣郡 Nobikatagatagun old place name in present Gifu area, 三社 Sanja three shrine, 権現 Gongen Buddha appearing in a temporary god figure, 氏子 Ujiko parishioner, 願主 Ganshu petitioner, 岩松院  Iwamatsuin temple name,  各務 与三郎 Kagami Yosaburo male name, 住人 Junin resident, 大工 Daiku carpenter, 遠藤 重吉 平吉 Endo Jukichi and Heikichi male names
