Antique Japanese Buddhist Altar Fitting Flower Vase
This is an antique metal flower vase, hanatate, for Buddhist altars. It is a vessel for Sakaki leaves or Shashagi leaves. The meaning of offering sakaki tree leaves is that it is believed the gods living in the sakaki tree will protect the grave and the soul. It is also common to offer a range of seasonal and symbolic flowers in front of the altar.
