Japanese Antique Katagami Kimono Stencil Katazome

Details: In the late Edo period 1860, the Japanese used Ise Katagami for dying fabrics called Katazome. This katagami has the design of flowers seed and form into different shapes of a flower. These stencils are made from the bark of the mulberry tree and glue extracted from persimmon, making the paper strong and water-resistant. These beautiful Ise Katagami from the Ise area in central Japan have no silk lining, unlike most katagami. The thickness of the katagami differs depending on how they are used. Thin katagami is usually used for fine designs, and thicker ones are used for bold patterns.
