Japanese Wooden Kokeshi Doll
This vintage Japanese wooden kokeshi doll has a classic design (round head, cylindrical body). The body is straight with a tapered neck, and it is painted with Kyoto-related designs, such as Maiko(young geisha girl), the kanji for Gion, and a three-tiered pagoda. The facial expression is youthful and joyful, and the black hair and white ribbon are painted on the head. It has been brushed with a clear lacquer coating.
Kokeshi dolls are traditional toys, figurines, and charms crafted from wood that are an excellent decorative representation of Japanese craftsmanship and traditional culture.
