Tariff Information for U.S. Customers

All orders ship from Japan. Please note that recent changes in U.S. import policy affect how duties (“tariffs”) are collected on all shipments.
Japan Post has closed service to the United States, so all U.S. orders now ship via DHL Express.

Current Shipping Policy (as of August 29, 2025)

DHL Shipments (DDU with required fees)

All U.S. orders are now shipped with DHL Express.
DHL calculates rates based on both size and weight.
Our Shopify system can only calculate by weight, so for some large-but-light items, the displayed DHL price may not be available.
If this happens, we will contact you with the correct DHL shipping fee before finalizing your order.
Currently, we can only ship up to 8 kg per package by DHL.

DHL Processing Fee

To submit tariffs and the required customs paperwork, all U.S. orders shipped via DHL include a mandatory $7 processing fee.

U.S. Tariff Fees (Shared with Customers)

The U.S. government tariff on Japanese-origin goods is 15%.
To support our customers during this transition, Chidori Vintage will cover half of this tariff.
Customers will only be charged a 7.5% tariff fee at checkout.
We are doing this to make it easier for our U.S. customers during these very difficult times.

FAQ

Are duties included in my checkout total?
Yes. At checkout, you will see:
- DHL shipping fee (system-calculated, may require adjustment for oversized items)
- $7 DHL processing fee
- 7.5% U.S. tariff fee (Chidori Vintage pays the other half)

What if my item is oversized but light?
Our system calculates shipping only by weight. For very large but lightweight items, Shopify may display an incorrect DHL price.
If that happens, we will contact you before shipping to confirm the actual DHL cost.

Why do I see a processing fee?
DHL requires a $7 processing fee for customs paperwork and tariff submission. This fee is required for all U.S. orders.

Why am I only paying 7.5% instead of 15%?
The official U.S. tariff is 15%, but we have chosen to split the cost with you.
We pay the other 7.5% ourselves to help our U.S. customers continue to shop with us.

Important Note on Timing

The tariff and fees apply based on the date your package arrives in the U.S., not the date you place your order.
