 Vtg Japanese Buddhist Altar Butsudan Inner Temple

This item is a large decorative part from a Japanese vintage wooden Buddhist altar cabinet. This piece is the inner temple and the main feature of the altar. Typically, it houses a statue and small scrolls at the back. It is a stunning piece with 3D carved wood pieces and decorations like those in a real Japanese temple. It is mostly gold with a black lacquered base, red fence, and bronze embellishments. The carvings depict clouds and deity-like figures near the roof. 
**Note: Due to its size, this piece has been carefully separated into two parts and will be shipped in two packages.

In Japan, the Buddhist altar is a place to enshrine the principal image of the center of faith, a sacred place to hold memorial services for ancestors, and a "small temple in the home."

  • Good condition considering its age. Scratches and discoloration on lacquer pieces. Some carved extensions and decoration on front and roof piece are broken/missing. Discolorations. Wear and tear due to use. Please see the photos.
