This is a vintage Japanese Buddhist altar-fitting, Candle set, cased in a paper box. There are 60 candles, about 5.3 centimeters in length.
Lighted candles offer prayers to the Buddha, ancestors, and the deceased at the Buddhist altar. In Buddhism, lighting a candle means that light is wisdom, and a candle means that all life will eventually come to an end.
