Antique Japanese Wooden Spinning Wheel
This is an antique Taisho Era manual spinning wheel (itoguruma) made of a combination of wood and bamboo. The outside wheel frame is made of strips of bamboo attached to wooden spokes and a fully wooden body. There is a crank on one side that turns easily. The base has a long piece of wood that sticks out and is attached to block with two vertical pieces and braided straw cords (the block is adjustable).
It is used for spinning silk, cotton, and other thread, then it is used to wind that thread onto small sticks called kuda.
