Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku

This antique Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) represents a tsubaki camellia bush painted in black, with flowers and buds painted in red. This elegant piece is perfect for winter but can be displayed all year. This piece is signed with a name.

Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. It was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan and has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room, and Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
