Japanese Wooden Storage Box for Hanging Scroll
Handcrafted in a natural wood color, this sturdy, slender box is designed to store a hanging scroll, or kakejiku. The lid fits flush on the top and has a slight curve on the top edge. It has two wooden brackets inside the box to secure the scroll. There is no writing or designs on the box, which makes it perfect for customization.
Typically displayed in Japanese tokonoma alcoves in homes and other traditional establishments such as traditional Japanese inns, hanging scrolls feature various themes, from seasonal/holiday images to poems to Buddhist texts and imagery. For additional decorative detail, it's popular to add scroll weights, or fuchin, which are tassels with heavy polished stones that hang from the bottom end caps.
