Vintage Japanese Wooden Phallic Amulet w/Box
This is a vintage Japanese shrine amulet carved in a phallic shape. It is stained a medium wood brown, brushed with a clear lacquer coat, and wrapped in a white paper. This item is a talisman purchased from Tagata Shrine in Komaki, Aichi Prefecture. Every spring Tagata Shrine hosts a famous "penis" festival called Hounen Matsuri which celebrates fertility. It comes with the original paper box and a pamphlet describing the history of Tagata Shrine.
