Vintage Japanese Wooden Storage Box for Shikishi Art Boards
Wooden boxes are a common method of safely keeping and storing delicate pottery, vases, and other ceramic, clay, and glass items in Japan. In addition to pottery, they are also widely used for a plethora of other traditional Japanese crafts including kimono accessories, wrapping cloths, chopsticks, commemorative gifts, etc.
This shallow vintage lidded wooden box is made for holding a stack of shikishi art boards. Since the art fits perfectly inside, there is a hole on the backside to push through to remove the shikishi. The lid is slightly convex and has carved handle-like sides for subtle decoration. It can also be used for general storage of trinkets or use for display or other crafts/projects.
