Japanese Wooden Fan

This is a Japanese wooden fan or UchiwaUchiwa is a traditional fan tool typically made of wood or bamboo and paper in a flat paddle-like shape. This particular fan is made of paper-thin slices of cedar wood collected from Kumano, an area in southern Mie Prefecture. This fan features Nachi Taisha which is a very famous shrine with a remarkable waterfall. It also shows "yatagarasu", the three-legged crow, a creature said to be a servant of the Shinto sun goddess Amaterasu-no-Okami. There is a short description written about the crow and also the magical use of the fan itself.
