Vintage Japanese Metal Bear Bell
This is a vintage Japanese metal bear bell. It is a souvenir item from hiking Mt. Yari in the Japanese Alps located in the Gifu and Nagano area. It has an embossed image of a rock ptarmigan (thunder bird) on one side and a mountainscape on the other with both the Japanese name of the mountain and the elevation (3180m). It has a bright yellow flat cord attached to the top. Japanese hikers commonly wear bells on their bags and or clothes to deter bears.
