This is Japanese offering cup stand for a Buddhist altar. Also called bukki, this important altar accessory made from wood is coated with gold and red lacquer and has a simple hexagonal shape. It is used often in pairs to hold small cups of rice, sake, and more as an offering to Buddha and one's ancestors.
