Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku W/ Wooden Box

This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (called kakejiku or makimono) features a river in the mountains where two boats are close to the shore. Men on the boats are making something. It seems there is a chagama to boil water on one of the boats. This  kakejiku falls into the sansui, literally mountains and water, category. It is painted in color. This piece is signed with a name and a red seal. The box has inscriptions on the lid.

Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
