Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku W/ Wooden Box

This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features a colored picture of the Seven Lucky Gods sailing on their boat, the Takarabune meaning Treasure Ship. The Seven Lucky Gods are Bihyamonten (God of financial luck), Hoteison (God of husband and wife harmony), Jyurojin (God of long life), Fukurokujyu (God of virtue and popularity), Daikokuten (God of good fortune and good luck), Ebisuten (God of fishing), Benzaiten (God of wisdom). The original artwork is by artist Ishida Shosen. This piece is signed with a name and a red seal. It is stored in a wooden box that says Takarabune.

Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
