Chinese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku
This vintage Chinese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono in Japanese) features chrysanthemum flowers in vases. The flowers are delicately painted in yellow and green, and the vases are black. On the top left, there is a text, likely a poem. This piece is signed and has red seals. There are inscriptions and a red seal on the outside.
Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
