Vtg Japanese Shrine Ofuda Hanging Frame
This is a Japanese vintage wooden wall hanging frame made for holding and displaying ofuda (also called gofu), the wood and paper talisman amulets blessed and sold by Shinto and some Buddhist shrines and temples. It has a Shinto shrine-shaped design with gold resin chrysanthemums decorating the top border.
Ofuda are often hung at gates, in doorways, and near ceilings as a means to keep the god (kami) above all else, keep watch, and chase away misfortune and negativity.
