Vtg Japanese Traditional Washi Paper Art

This is a large panel of handcrafted washi paper art. It uses thick dark blue paper with a heavily textured square panel at the center. Down the very middle is a knotted rope incorporated into the paper during production. The top half of the rope is free and movable.
Washi paper has a whole host of materials and uses. From drawing paper, woodblock prints, and shoji screens to doll-making, wrapping paper, and postcards, the three main materials are kozo, mitsumata, and gampi, all plant fibers. However, hemp, wood pulp, bamboo, etc are also commonly used for cheaper, everyday products and often in washi paper-making experiences for tourists.
