Vtg Japanese Boys' Day Military Fan Display

This is a vintage Japanese military fan display set out during Boys' Day (also known as Children's Day). It's a wooden fan coated in gold, silver, and black lacquer with metal embellishments. At the very center is the red sun. The base piece is lacquered black with metal decoration and has a purple and gold chrysanthemum silk top side. It also comes with a small scepter that rests across the top of the main stand with a purple and white tassel and a hanging piece made of gold paper.

Gogatsu-Ningyo (May dolls) are amulets wishing for the health and growth of children that are displayed during the Boys' Festival. Other items such as armor decorations, helmet decorations, and warrior dolls (warlords) are also popular.
