Vintage Japanese Wagasa Umbrella
Whether paired with a beautiful kimono or in the hands of an elegant Geisha, Japanese traditional umbrellas (wagasa) are a popular fashion accessory as well as an eye-catching home decor piece.
This paper umbrella is simple and has a solid brown/gold color. The headpiece at the very top is a rich purple fabric with yellow and tied with yellow string. The inner frame is bamboo and tied together with brown string. The handle is made of slender natural bamboo. Closed, the outer ribs are lacquered a rich reddish-brown. The paper is torn in many places, however the frame is strong and an excellent DIY re-papering project.
