Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku W/ Wooden Box
This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features four flowers, one for each season. There is a peony flower, some chrysanthemum flowers, a plum tree with blossom, and a tree with red leaves bearing small red berries. This piece is signed with a name and a red seal. It is stored in a wooden box with paper packaging. On the box, it says Shiki Kusabana meaning Four Seasons Flowers.
Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
