Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku W/ Wooden Box
This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (called kakejiku or makimono) features a landscape scenery in the mountains. There are waterfalls and a water mill in the foreground. Trees, houses, and a man carrying rice straw are also painted. This type of kakejiku is called sansui, literally mountains and water. It is painted in color, mostly beige, black, and green. This piece is signed with a name and a red seal. The box has inscriptions on the outside of the lid. The lid sits on top and the bottom part is broken and missing.
Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.

Good condition considering its age. Some stains on the back. Insect holes and dents on box. Bottom part of the lid is broken and missing. Wear and tear due to age. Please see the photos.
