Japanese Arita Porcelain Yunomi Teacup
This vintage Japanese teacup is made of Arita porcelain. It is sometsuke (blue and white) and features a design of pine trees and playing children of Tang Dynasty China (karako), a popular decorative motif in Japan during the Edo Period that symbolizes longevity and health for children.
This cup is called yunomi, or a smaller, sometimes more cylindrical cup made for serving and drinking sencha (standard looseleaf tea). These cups are typically brought to guest in one's home, a business, or a restaurant on a lacquered obon tray.
