Japanese Suiseki Viewing Stone Ornament
This item is an antique Japanese viewing stone, also called Suiseki. This very tall cliff-like statue is made entirely of petrified wood. It stands on a carved wooden stand with in indentation to hold it in place. While this fixture was put together around the turn of the century (1900), the piece of petrified wood itself can be considered prehistoric.
In traditional Japanese culture, Suiseki are rocks, big and small, appreciated for their natural aesthetics and decorative values. This suiseki stone makes for a gorgeous centerpiece or mantelpiece.
