Vtg Japanese Ceramic Zodiac Rat Figurine
This is a vintage ceramic Japanese zodiac figurine, often set out before and after the New Year or as a token of a person's birth year and assigned zodiac animal. Zodiac figurines are a lucky charm that protects the family throughout the year. This Tokoname ware figurine represents two rats, or nezumi, with a lucky hammer, or uchidenokoduchi, in a realistic style. It is reddish brown, the classic color of Tokoname ware. The figurine comes with a small wooden panel with inscriptions. The set comes in a box.
