This vintage Japanese clamshell kimono Hina doll is wearing a layered purple kimono with gold embellishments. It is holding a gold-color paper fan. This doll is a simple design and a compact size, easy to store. It has some weight to it and can be enjoyed as a paperweight.
The Hinamatsuri (Doll's Festival) in Japan is a traditional event celebrated on March 3rd every year, primarily to wish for the healthy growth and happiness of girls. Hina dolls are an essential part of Hinamatsuri and are prominently displayed in homes during the festival.
