Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku
This vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) features a black-and-white monochrome landscape, called sansui. There are mountains in the background and trees and a human figure with an animal on the foreground. The border is green. It is signed and has a red seal.
Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
