This is a vintage Japanese ceramic noh mask (noh-men) decoration. This character is the face of a famous Shinto god called Omoikane. This deity is the embodiment of wisdom and intelligence and acts as an advisor to other gods. Omoikane is a popular figure for young Japanese to pray to for success in school and on exams.
