Vtg Japanese Wooden Kokeshi Doll
This vintage Japanese wooden kokeshi doll has a classic design (round head, cylindrical body). The body is straight with brown bands on the top and bottom. The shoulder is tapered with a thin neck and a wobbly head. It is painted with a Japanese poem, Waka, and its scenery with a pagoda, deer, trees, and a distant mountain. The facial expression is calm , eyes closed, and the tufts of hair with blue and white ribbons are painted. It has been brushed with a clear lacquer coating to give it shine.
Kokeshi dolls are traditional toys, figurines, and charms crafted from wood that are an excellent decorative representation of Japanese craftsmanship and traditional culture.
