Vintage Japanese Ceramic Nabe Bowl
This vintage Japanese ceramic small bowl (kobachi) is white with a blue and green design of pine trees and playing children of Tang Dynasty China (karako), a popular decorative motif in Japan that symbolizes longevity and health for children. It also has a brown rim. This type of bowl is generally used for retrieving food from nabe hot pot, shabu shabu, or other shared dishes. It is to catch any drips or be used as a dipping bowl (as in the case of shabu shabu). The tapered part of the rim is to grip like a handle for easy lifting and maneuvering at the dining table as well as a prop for a spoon.
