Antique Japanese Koimari Bowl

This is an antique Japanese Koimari ware porcelain soup bowl (Hachi). It has a blue Sometsuke floral pattern and a shishi lion's picture drawn on it. There is a waving shape around the edge. The age of the pottery can be roughly understood by looking at the bottom. From the end of the Edo period to the beginning of the Meiji period, it was made using a manufacturing method that did not apply glaze to the bottom so that it would not stick to the kiln. It is called Janome Koudai because it looks like a snake's eye. Little distortion is seen in the bowl. Because it was fired with firewood instead of gas or electricity as it is today, the temperature was not stable and easy to warp. There are (goma) sesame spots and dust marks. The marks of sesame and dust are the places where the ash fell when it was fired in the kiln.
