Antique Japanese Mother and Child Portrait Photograph
This is an original antique Meiji Era black and white photograph of a mother/grandmother with a small boy child. They both wear formal kimono. The mother is seated on a decorative chair while the boy stands. The child's kimono is very elaborate which likely means this photo was taken during the Shichi-Go-San holiday where children aged 7, 5, and 3 are celebrated for their health and resilience, and also to hope for health in years to come. Even in modern Japan, Shichi-Go-San is a popular time to have children photographed. It comes adhered to a thick card.
