Japanese Porcelain Yunomi Teacup
This is a vintage Japanese Kutani ware porcelain teacup. The storyteller teacup depicts people wearing Heian courtly attire-like costumes in a mountain area. One of them breathes out, and there is a small figure in the breath. Glazes make small textured dots around the bottom. The bottom has a signature. It has been repaired with a metallic color.
This cup is called yunomi, made for serving and drinking sencha (standard loose-leaf tea). It is typically brought to guests in one's home, a business, or a restaurant on a lacquered obon tray.
