Japanese Buddhist Altar Fitting Butsugu Butsudan
This is a porcelain flower vases, hanatate/sakakitate, for Buddhist altars. This particular vase has a simple, smooth, tapered shape. It features a solid white glaze with no other decoration. It is common to offer a range of seasonal and symbolic flowers in front of a Buddhist altar.
In addition, it is also a vessel for Sakaki leaves or Shashagi leaves in Shinto. The meaning of offering sakaki tree leaves is that the gods living in the sakaki tree will protect the grave and the soul.
