Japanese Wooden Haribako Sewing Chest
This is a Japanese sewing box, also called haribako. Finished with a natural dark brown color, it displays a gorgeous rippled natural wood grain. This tansu chest has four differently-sized drawers with simple metal hardware.
A panel in the lid opens to reveal a large compartment that houses a pin cushion and stand. To mimic the shape of other classic haribako, this pin cushion stand is vertically adjustable and secured in place by a wooden screw. There is also a slot on the side that was initially to house a small straight ruler for measuring. This beautiful piece can not only be used for storing sewing supplies, but jewelry, art supplies, or other trinkets.
