Vintage Japanese Ise Katagami of Shochikubai Fans w/ Wooden Frame
In a simple wooden frame, this katagami textile stencil made of mulberry paper displays the image of three fans. Together, the fans have a shochikubai pattern, a traditional set of imagery that includes pine, bamboo, and plum blossom. It is a common association with New Year and the winter season as it symbolizes perseverance and renewal.
While katagami is typically used for printing images on fabrics such as kimono, it has become a popular item to frame and or further decorate for wall art. As such, its intricate designs made by hand-cutting the paper make it an excellent piece to use in home and office decor.
The katagami is adhered to a shikishi board. The original box is included.
