Vintage Japanese Imari Porcelain Bowl
This is a Japanese vintage Imari porcelain rice bowl. The bowl has a gorgeous hand-painted design in red, green, and blue called Akadama Yoraku. It is characterized by the large red circles, of which these particular ones have gold painted peony flowers inside each one. There is a diamond hishi pattern as a border on the inside rim. and a leafy circle on the inside bottom of the bowl. This bowl has been broken and carefully repaired. While it is not repaired with the kintsugi method (gold powder mixed with lacquer and glue), it is a good example of the wabi-sabi philosophy, which promotes viewing old, broken, or worn items with renewed beauty.
It is the ideal size to serve soup, rice, or other small foods.
