This item is an antique Japanese serving or offering high table, or takatsuki. It is a tall table with a stem connecting the bottom platform and the top. It is painted with solid black lacquer with a gold rim. The table top features a beautiful makie image of two cranes (tsuru) and pine trees and needles (matsu) with plum blossoms (ume) on the base. Takatsuki tables are used often in religious ceremonies as offering tables. They are also commonly used for offering or serving sweet treats to nobility or guests.
